John F. Bonamo, M.D., MS, Executive Director joins NICU Physicians, Miracle Walk Founders Jonathan and Hayley Hirschmann and their two daughters on stage at Miracle Walk
|
Miracle Walk was created by a family in gratitude for the care their daughter received during a three month stay in the Saint Barnabas Medical Center Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. A team of dedicated parents have joined together to organize and participate in this annual walk-a-thon to raise financial support for the NICU. To learn more about the Miracle Walk committee, and what they do, click here. In the past nine years, Miracle Walk has raised over $2.5 million to purchase advanced medical technology for the NICU.
Due to the success of Miracle Walk, the NICU at Saint Barnabas has acquired state-of-the-art equipment such as Giraffe Omnibeds, NeoPuff infant resuscitators, neoBLUE LED phototherapy lights and cutting-edge Isolette infant transporters. These items have been purchased to ensure NICU babies receive outstanding care and experience as little discomfort as possible. Parents of babies treated at Saint Barnabas for prematurity, low birth weight, serious illness, and congenital disorders know the invaluable care they receive has provided for optimal outcomes.
Friends and families may sponsor a walker, make a donation, volunteer at the event, or walk any distance that is comfortable for them. Scenic Verona Park includes a stroller-friendly path to allow everyone in the family to get involved and make a difference.

The Saint Barnabas Medical Center NICU Staff at Miracle Walk
|
Each year, more than 1,200 infants receive the highest quality of care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. Our Regional Perinatal Center can provide very high levels of care and is equipped to treat babies with a full range of serious medical conditions.
For the past five years, Saint Barnabas is proud to have one of the lowest chronic lung disease rates among over 650 NICUs worldwide. Premature babies, including the most fragile, low birth weight infants, cared for at the Saint Barnabas NICU have an extremely high survival rate and a very low disability rate compared to national averages.
The NICU is actively involved in quality improvement collaboratives and continually works to improve the care given to NICU babies and their families. The NICU Family Advisory Council, made up of volunteers that have the first hand experience of having a child in the SBMC NICU, work hand-in-hand with NICU staff to improve the “NICU experience” for current and future NICU families.
